Corrections & Updates Policy

The Svc Newsroom aims to provide accurate, timely information about our industry. When we get something wrong, we want to fix it quickly and transparently.

Our Commitment to Accuracy

We strive to base each article on clearly identified sources and to summarize those sources faithfully.

Even with automated workflows and careful editorial rules, errors can occur. When they do, we correct them and, where appropriate, explain what changed and why.

Types of Changes We Make

We generally categorize changes as:

  • Minor edits – Fixing typos, formatting issues, or small wording changes that do not alter the meaning of the article. These may not receive an explicit note.
  • Clarifications – Adding context or making language clearer without changing the underlying facts.
  • Corrections – Fixing factual errors, such as incorrect figures, names, dates, or attributions.
  • Updates – Adding new information as a story evolves or new official data becomes available.

Significant corrections and updates may include a short editor's note at the top or bottom of the article.

How We Handle Reported Issues

When a reader reports a potential issue using the "Report an issue with this article" link:

  1. We log the report along with the article identifier and timestamp.
  2. We review the article and the sources used.
  3. If a correction, clarification, or update is warranted, we update the article as soon as reasonably possible.
  4. For meaningful changes, we add an editor's note and update the "Last updated" timestamp.

We cannot respond individually to every report, but we review all of them and use the feedback to improve our processes.

When We Unpublish or Substantially Rewrite Content

In rare cases, an article may be:

  • Substantially rewritten – for example, if the original framing was misleading or incomplete in a way that affects understanding.
  • Unpublished – for example, if the story was based on fundamentally flawed information or violates our editorial standards.

When this happens, we aim to:

  • Replace the article with an updated version, or
  • Remove it and, where appropriate, add a placeholder note explaining why it was removed.

How to Request a Correction

If you believe an article is inaccurate, missing important context, or misrepresents the sources:

  • Use the "Report an issue with this article" link that appears on each story, or
  • Contact us through the details on our Contact page, including:
  • The article title and URL
  • A brief description of the issue
  • Any supporting information or sources

We review all correction requests in good faith and strive to respond through updated coverage where appropriate.
